It was a first for Galeri Chandan to host an opening night on a Tuesday. But in celebrating family, love and affection and in conjunction with Valentine’s Day, we made an exception for Haris Abadi’s first solo show “Cosmic Playground “.
We began the night by welcoming all guests to our first show for 2017 to a good crowd of art students, lecturers, artists and also family and friends to Malaysia’s emerging artist in the new media art. “Cosmic Playground” leverages on Haris’s interests in digital culture and post humanism to communicate his hopes and fears for the children, and the generation to come. Its also a personal projection of his hopes and fears for humanity.
As a show of honor and respect, ‘ Cosmic Playground’ was officiated by Associate Professor Jailani Abu Hassan, a well-known artist and also Haris’s lecturer during his degree years.
Supports from Haris’s family, his students and collegues all the way from Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK), a state east of Malaysia, added more to the grandeur of the night.
The day after, 15 February 2017, an art talk with the artist was held. The talk was moderated by curator of the show Nadia Zawani Hussin. The hour and a half slot was attended by young and established artists, interns from galleries and also art lovers who are intrigued and want to delve more into what goes behind the artists’ mind on his ideas, techniques and execution of his works.
We believe that Haris’s poetics from machinery, evoking humanity from technology and processing each project to our modern day lifestyle will one way or another become a projection to humanity in more ways than one.
‘Cosmic Playground’ will show till 9 March 2017.
