Duration: 25 November – 25 December 2016
Location: Galeri Chandan
Matter at Hand is a pilot exhibition embarked by Mohd Fuad Arif as part of his studio requirement for his Ph.D research in Fine Art studio. It is fundamentally not to empirically test the works and get ‘measurable data’, but as a form of ‘opening the works’ to be viewed openly by the general public and peers, in the understanding that through such engagements it will create dialogues which in turn would also help the artist to develop ‘sights and knowing’ into the subject. As phenomenologically in experiencing and knowing the material through drawing, it is also interpretatively circular and collaborative, meaning, the viewings and dialogues is as significant as to the making of the works itself.
Displaying his raw drawings which consists of graphite scribbling on a flat field of white paper seem to describe some internal process in which a spontaneous presence and energy is registered.
‘Matter at Hand’ showcases 25-selected drawings from hundreds more of his study drawing. This exhibition is supported with a publication, which includes three essays by the artist himself, Dr. Mohd Zahuri Khairani from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris Shah and Dr. Karna Mustaqim, a professor at Matana University, Tangerang Indonesia.
